Young promising surfers from Sydney’s eastern and southern suburbs will benefit from seeing some of the world’s best surfers when the 2018 Carve Pro hits Maroubra once again in January.

The elite four-day competition – which will form the first of four stops on the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series  – will take place at Maroubra Beach from 18 – 21 January, 2018.

200 of Australia’s and the world’s most promising male and female surfers will compete in the event.

Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden believes that the high calibre of surfing that’s become the norm at the Carve Pro, will serve as inspiration for promising junior surfers.

“The calibre of surfing at the Carve Pro has always been incredibly high,” said Madden. “As a result, we’re seeing an increased charge from the next generation of surfers on Sydney’s eastern suburbs who are eager to one day represent their local beach in front of fellow local surfers.”

Carve Director Matt Whyte echoed Madden’s sentiments, saying the event had gone from strength to strength over the last few years and is looking forward to seeing what transpires in 2018.

“The Carve Pro has grown exponentially since it went from a Pro Junior to a Qualifying Series event in 2016,” said Whyte. “Since then, we’ve seen competitors who were junior stars grow into genuine QS warriors and we can’t wait to see who emerges through the ranks when the event kicks off in early 2018.”

Randwick Mayor Lindsay Shurey is looking forward to seeing the event get underway on the shores of Maroubra Beach early next year.

“Maroubra Beach has long been known as a surfing mecca for locals and visitors alike, and I look forward to welcoming the 2018 Carve Pro surfers to our shore,” said Shurey. “I’m particularly glad that young surfers will have the opportunity to see some of their surfing idols in action and hope that they are inspired to continue competing in this wonderful sport.”

Like previous years, Souths Juniors have again come onboard as a community partner and is once again delighted be part of the growing event.

“To coin an old surfing phrase, Souths Juniors are stoked to be involved again with the Carve Pro in 2018,” said Souths Juniors Chairman Keith McCraw. “It’s great to see a world class surfing event at Maroubra, that gives up and coming locals the opportunity to compete at this level at their home beach.”
